The acclaimed traveling dining experience Outstanding in the Field will set its iconic long table at Hidden Creek Farm on Saturday, September 19, bringing together farmers, chefs, and guests for a one-night-only outdoor feast celebrating the flavors and stories of our region.

The evening will feature a multi-course meal prepared by Guest Chefs Amanda and Derek Luhowiak from The Whole Ox in Marshall, Virginia, with ingredients sourced from Hidden Creek Farm and surrounding producers. Guests will begin the experience with a welcome reception before gathering for a tour and settling in at a single long table placed directly in the landscape where much of the meal’s ingredients are grown, harvested, and raised.

About Outstanding in the Field

Founded by artist Jim Denevan in 1999, Outstanding in the Field is a roving restaurant without walls, setting its table at farms, vineyards, beaches, ranches, and other remarkable landscapes around the world. The experience was designed to reconnect diners with the land and the people who grow and produce their food, celebrating the craftsmanship of farmers, fishermen, ranchers, winemakers, and artisans through shared meals.

Each meal is created in collaboration with a local chef who designs a menu inspired by the place and its seasonal ingredients. The result is a singular gathering that tells the story of a region through its food, its farmers, and the community gathered around the table.

  • Andrea & Dendy Young

    Hidden Creek Farm

    Hidden Creek Farm is a regenerative farm dedicated to producing Certified Organic vegetables, pasture-raised meats, and fresh eggs while caring for the land that sustains us. Andrea Young left a career in conflict resolution to pursue a different vision for food, farming, and health. Together with her husband, Dendy, she purchased Hidden Creek Farm in 2015 with a mission to regenerate the land, restore trust in our food system, and nourish the community.

    The Whole Ox

    The Whole Ox is an artisanal, old-fashioned butcher shop and eatery in Marshall, Virginia, founded in 2011 by husband-and-wife duo Derek and Amanda Luhowiak. Specializing in whole-animal butchery, the shop sources ethically raised, pasture-fed meats from local farms, embracing full transparency and minimal waste, truly using everything from “nose to tail.” In the Whole Ox shop, you’ll also find a curated selection of cheeses, jams, chutneys, pickles, herb mixes and more.
